Want some tips to stay on top of biological processes? Follow along as we demonstrate how to make a layered map with help from the Northwest Association for Biomedical Research.

  • SAMPLE LESSON: USING POST-IT® NOTES AND FLAGS TO MAP ANATOMY SYSTEMS

Simplifying things is often a surefire way to understand intricate systems — see for yourself as we “peel” back the various components of an animal cell:

  • 1

Using a Post-it® Super Sticky Note, sketch the surface layer of the cell you’re researching. Give this Post-it® Super Sticky Note a clear title for easy reference and any additional notes that may be useful.

  • 2

Take another Post-it® Note and go “one layer deeper” with your organism. Sketch the essential structures and label them with Post-it® Flags for easy reference.

  • 3

Continue using Post-it® Super Sticky Notes and Post-it® Flags as you continue to go one level “deeper” within the cell features and structures. Consider using different colored Post-it® Super Sticky Notes if diagramming specific structures or processes.

  • Camp BIOmed

The Northwest Association for Biomedical Research (NWABR) hosts Camp BIOmed, a summer camp for high school students, offers a variety of programs designed to help future professionals understand burgeoning biological fields. With an emphasis on hands-on lessons and experiments, students are treated to a comprehensive understanding of how biomedical research is conducted and exposed to challenges faced by scientists every day. Learn more about Camp BIOmed here.
